CD Review: Venom-From The Very Depths(Available January 27th) Spinefarm Records

Remembering my days of high school and having a good friend tell me that Venom was the best band on the planet, not hearing of them then I had gone home and MuchMusic had The Power Hour and they were on that show. I watched in amazement as my friend had to have been confused even as a teen I felt they played poorly, but they also left an impact on me as I remember them scaring me. Never to listen to them again, until now!

Venom 1980's
From Band's Bio:

FORMED BACK in 1979 in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Venom have had a HUGE influence on extreme music, especially the Thrash and Black Metal scenes, with bands such as Metallica, Slayer & Megadeth regularly acknowledging their historical importance and weight.

With the title of their second album (‘Black Metal’, 1982) now being used to describe an entire musical genre, it’s clear that Venom’s ground-breaking blend of raw heavy metal & punk, complete with down-to-earth humour and lyrics inspired by Satan and darker forces in general, singles them out as one of metal’s most legendary and notorious acts.

They were harder, faster, noisier and more offensive than all of their contemporaries back in the early ’80s, and new album ‘From The Very Depths’ shows that their signature no-compromise approach, based around original Venom titan Cronos’ infamous ‘bulldozer bass’, has in no way mellowed with time…

Here is a video for "Welcome To Hell" 1985

As I have aged and now being a reviewer of many styles of Hard Rock / Heavy Metal I can appreciate their music more and have watched a few videos of their older music and quite enjoy it.

More from the bands bio:

THE NEW ALBUM: ‘FROM THE VERY DEPTHS’
VENOM, the hugely influential UK outfit now celebrating 30 years plus at the forefront of the metal scene since the release of their legendary ‘Welcome To Hell’ debut, will have a brand new studio album released on January 27th via Spinefarm Records…

Titled ‘From The Very Depths’ and featuring 14 fresh recordings produced by main-man / bassist Cronos, this is the band’s 14th studio album to date; the follow-up to 2011’s ‘Fallen Angels’ release, it sees the trio (completed by guitarist Rage & drummer Dante) adopting a style highly redolent of classic early Venom with modern studio technology employed only to increase the general level of nastiness and spite.

The double vinyl version of ‘From The Very Depths’ will follow the CD / download as a special enhanced package for Record Store Day.

Says Cronos:

“This album is perfect! All three members are totally over-the-top confident with the new songs and the production. We had a great atmosphere in the studio while we were recording – Dante created pure thunder from his drums, while Rage tears the flesh off your face with his riffs, making everything fall into place so well… it’s a strong release and really shows the band maturing into an unstoppable force of pure Black Metal. We can’t wait to play the new songs live for the Legions… Hell Yeah!”

They have a NEW fan in me this is some epic Heavy Metal -this is music that makes my ears sing and what a way to start out the year.
This has already been an incredible start to the year musically.

This is my personal favourite song on the album below!

This has all the elements for a classic Heavy Metal album and easily one of the BEST of the year so far!
Was also surprised when I received this album in my list of one's to listen too and knowing their history as a band , like a fine wine they have matured into something special.Always so thankful to be able to do this and hear all this great music I thank the musicians most of all for their talents and their music.

Thank you for reading this
Sincerely
Anthony Nadeau
