On The Shelf: Bean Around Books My chat with Dan Ruimy

If you have ever been in a used book store you know the routine just a person behind the desk trying to make a living selling some used books.
Well this is where Dan Ruimy is different as he also sells Tea and has  Tarot Card readings, painters and photographers photos in his store: sells DVDs and once in awhile a book club uses his store for their meetings.

Take a look at his website:

When I was there the prior weekend Dan had a film crew in the store filming a Hallmark Movie starring Carrie Fisher entitled "Caroling". He said she was not approachable at all, she wanted to be left alone.

When I was ready to leave Dan informed me that he is part of a group that is trying to expand literacy in Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows/Katzie Nation. The project started in November and is hoping to reach anyone that might have troubles reading and/or writing.
To participate all is required is that the child has to be a part of the  three communities listed earlier on, attending a school and be registered by their parent/guardian.They will have a paper to keep track of their reading etc and then at the end of each month there will be a prize for the participant with the most reading etc done.
Here is the website for more information:

Community Literacy Committee

I would like to thank Dan for his time on this matter and for the record it was his birthday the day I stopped in and he happy as the movie crew left all the Christmas decorations in the shop so he didn't have to decorate the store.

Thanks for reading this
